Karl Johnson inspects worm castings from his vermacompost being churned out by a machine called a trommel screen or "separator" overhead. The trommel is a series of screens that rotate circularlly allowing any worms, uneaten compost or other debris to pass through where they are collected in a container and placed back in the worm bins to continue the vermicomposting cycle. Meanwhile the finest/smallest worm casting get sifted out and collected and packaged as a chemical free, nutrient rich way to fertilize naturally and organically. This product is called Black Gold at Yes Compost. His dog Obie keeps Karl and the worms company. Belgrade, Montana, March 28th, 2022
